Only Open This if You Want to Become A Leader
Becoming a more effective Leader – an insider look into my journey with my new business coach and insights from our 2018 leadership retreat!
Have you ever been in a standstill with your business?
Have you ever questioned your position as a leader and where you are going next in your career? Have you ever stopped to think, what are the characteristics of a leader and if you are embodying that person or not?
This was me. I was at a stand-still in my business and had no idea where I was going next. From the outside, my life looked PERFECT but on the inside I was literally questioning everything. I was even questioning if I wanted to continue on the path that I am on now.
After ten years in my career, I knew I was due for an overhaul. What I was doing was not working anymore, and I was soon to realize it was because of my mindset. I needed to wake up and grow up — mentally and spiritually!
Let me take you on a journey of how I decided to get over myself and start becoming the better version of myself as a leader, mentor and business owner. In this blog, I am diving deep into why I decided to hire a coach and what our team took away at our leadership retreat this year. I hope this helps you overcome some of your greatest fears and decide that you’re worth living your best life!
2017 was the start of this journey.
There were two main events that were the catalyst to my transformational leadership journey this year.
- I hosted my first ever leadership retreat and it was a tremendous success!
- A few days after this retreat, I left to invest in a weekend with Tony Robbins at his Unleash The Power Within Conference.
It was at Tony’s event that I made the decision I would hire a business coach in 2018.
I was ready for the next level in my personal and professional life. I decided I needed a business mentor and clarity coach. I needed to dig deeper into what was holding me back from accomplishing more and making more money. I wanted to become a better leader for my team. I was ready for the next level in building the Kaye Dixon brand. So the biggest question popped into my head at this point: WHO? Who was going to be my coach? I had confidence in my desire and that the perfect person would come along by path.
I had been taking notice of my dear friend Jordan on Instagram. Something about her had totally switched — growth had occurred and I couldn’t quite pinpoint what the transition was. Then one day she made a post and explained herself. In her post she described her business mentor, giving acknowledgment to her and praising her for her guidance in her business. The entire post resonated with me and I immediately began social stalking her coach Aida Lawlor.
I was skeptical but curious. There are so many “business coaches” out there and I found it hard to trust them all, but this one felt different. This time I felt a connection. I entrusted that the universe was delivering what I was praying for.
I asked Jordan to connect Aida and I, and within a few days we had our first call. Twenty minutes into our initial meeting, I knew she was the coach for me!
Aida is a Certified Clarity Coach and Business Mentor for High Performing Female Entrepreneurs. She helps women up-level their business through intentional mindset, strategy and execution. Additionally, she is a wife, mama of two littles, a former corporate ladder devotee, direct sales success story, Speaker, International Coaching Federation member and big time lover of the entrepreneurial journey!
I decided to invest in her 90-day coaching program. This immersion course set me on the most incredible path in my business, unlocking untruths about myself I didn’t realize I was holding onto while also uncovering some of my greatest talents!
As it turns out, I wasn’t falling out of love with my career, I just had to fall back in love with the things I liked about it. When Aida and I started working together, I didn’t feel connected to my leadership and knew that feeling confident as a leader and showing up for my team was instrumental in the growth I deeply desired.
In planning my retreat this year, I knew I needed to step up and host one confidently on my own this time. No sideline team. Just me, my team and bring in the best of the best in coaching/mentorship in our industry of direct sales.
So, 14 of us joined together in our gorgeous city of Sarasota, Florida for a weekend of stepping forward into Faith Over Fear.
Our coaches for the weekend were my business coach Aida along with social media strategist Joel Caro. Over the course of this past year, Joel has been working with my mom, Pam Sowder, in the launch of her Podcast. With his wisdom and guidance, we were blessed enough that he stepped in as our social media coach for the weekend!
Joel has been involved in the digital space with a focus on social media for over 7 years. His experience is in strategy development and content creation in order to garner growth and brand loyalty. He graduated from the University of Central Florida in 2008 with a Bachelors of Science in Finance with plans to work on Wall st. Due to the employment climate in 2008, he decided to pave his own path by starting and running a successful online business in electronics. Noticing the evolution of marketing, he quickly began to offer his knowledge and experience to other businesses as well as individuals looking to grow their digital footprint. His client list includes Dr.Axe.com, Paleo Passion Foods, Karuna Skin, Mike O’Hearn (Fitness Personality), Pam Sowder (Co-Founder of It Works Global) & Heath Evans (Former NFL Fullback). Each of these clients had different goals and Joel was able to deliver for all of them.
We walked away from the weekend with a clear and direct message from Joel: It’s common in the world of social media and network marketing to think that it’s all about sales, sales and more sales. However, that’s not true. In the industry of mlm, one of the key components today is to stand out among the hungry crowd. You cannot be a copy cat. You win by being the most authentic version of your self – the real you, the vulnerable you, the version that’s most relatable to your dream client. You must tell your story.
Joel says, “Be prepared to tell the story of your life through images and videos.” Share the intimate life moments, your newest discoveries, your favorite things, your opinions and your knowledge. Don’t hide behind your story because this story is what’s going to connect you with your dream client and it’s your dream client that you should always be talking to.
We were also blessed enough to have one full day with Aida, covering three very important topics: Money Mindset, Confidence/Visibility and Leadership.
We all have a money story, based on either our childhood/how we were raised or even based on recent life-experiences. If we don’t uncover new truths about our money mindset and start practicing what’s going to create abundance in our life, where do we expect to go? We have to get clear about it, set our intentions and be willing to write a new money story – one that is fun to manifest!
Once you have this down, you can begin to show up as the most confident and authentic version of yourself. You are no longer held back by fear of what others think, and instead are excited to show up and connect with your dream clients — and your dream clients only.
When you’re showing up as the best version of yourself, your leadership is on point. You are taking inspired action and leading by example. You’re able to connect with your team on a level they need for growth and manifestation. Additionally, you’re open to receiving. You’re coachable when you’re a leader. You realize you’re not the only one “at the top” – that you’re all in this together and just as much as they are learning from you – you are learning from them. I’ve learned to pay attention to who and what is my path and become extremely grateful for the reflection they are showing to me of myself, where I need growth, how far I have come and where I am going next!
This leadership retreat proved to me that I truly have a my dream team! The team we have today is the Black Diamond team. We are on the heels of our next big promotion and this year to come is going to be one of our best years to-date.
I’d like to personally thank our team leaders for taking the giant leap to be here. I know it takes a village to make sure the kids are taken care of, your spouses are satisfied and your life is arranged so you can be fully present with your team, or simply for your self. I get it and I’m beyond grateful you came!
